Minimalistic in its approach, Casa da Serra embraces simplicity and purity of form. The design celebrates honest materials, natural light, and a deep sensitivity to the surrounding landscape. Every space has been crafted to reflect calmness and restraint, allowing nature to take the lead.
Casa da Serra is located in Melides, set within approximately 2.6 hectares of grassland dotted with cork oaks, pines, and olive trees. The house is built around the remains of a former rural settlement, now reimagined as the central point of the property. The plot unfolds over gently sloping terrain that descends from the northern road and rises to a ridge in the south, offering both privacy and expansive views.
The property comprises three separate buildings:
Main House – The main residence features a generous living area with a fully equipped kitchen, a long wooden dining table, and comfortable seating to enjoy the surrounding views. It also includes a serene relaxation room with a daybed, one bedroom, and one separate bathroom with a bathtub.
Guest House – The adjacent guesthouse hosts two connected bedrooms and a compact shared bathroom, providing an intimate and cozy retreat for guests.
Garage and Rooftop Terrace – The third building contains the garage and laundry facilities. Its rooftop terrace offers panoramic views over the house, garden, and the serene Melides hills.

October – January: 3 nights
July – September: 7 nights
Villa Policy
Baby facilities: Cot and high chair available on request free of charge
Pets: Not allowed
Smoking: Not allowed inside or outside (including designated areas)
Access: The last 1200 meters are unpaved
Age restriction: We warmly welcome children. For their safety, and to protect the delicate artwork at Cá na serra, parental supervision is required at all times.
Cancellation Policy
By booking your holiday house you pay the full rental fee.
You can cancel your booking up to 60 days before arrival. We will refund you the full amount minus the transaction cost of 3%.
If you cancel the booking 30 to 59 days before the planned check-in, we will refund half of the fee paid minus 3% transaction cost.
Cancelling the booking less than 30 days prior to the check-in date — the whole rental fee cannot be returned.
SECURITY DEPOSIT:
If no damages have occurred during the stay, the security deposit will be returned within 14 days of the departure date, minus 3% administration fee.
Refunds will be made to the Renter’s Bank Account (please provide us with the name of the account holder – name of bank – IBAN – SWIFT/BIC via email to office@mui.pt).

Casa da Serra is featured in the publication “Fazer uma casa / Making a Home” by architect Luís Perreira Miguel. The book presents the concept and design process behind the house and is available at Casa da Serra for €49.
Currently, Casa da Serra also hosts an exhibition in collaboration with Sanae Collective, showcasing a selection of handcrafted objects and artworks by various artists. All pieces are available for viewing and purchase by guests.
